TMD/TMJ Diagnosis & Treatment in Whitby

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is what connects your jawbone to your skull, and acts as a hinge. You have one of these joints on each side of the head near the ear. These joints play a vital role in allowing us to eat, speak, and make facial expressions. However, when one experiences TMJ disorders, also known as a temporomandibular disorder (TMD), this can cause great pain in the head, neck, and jaw. TMJ disorders may also cause your jaw to pop while chewing your food.

Other symptoms include:

  • Aching pain in or around the ear
  • Jaw stiffness and soreness
  • Tenderness of jaw
  • Difficulty opening the mouth
  • Constant headaches
  • Difficulty chewing or pain while chewing
  • Aching facial pain

There are several possible treatment options that can relieve the pain. However, it all depends on the severity of each individual’s condition. Determining the right treatment for you will require a thorough diagnosis by fully examining and evaluating the problem.

If you are experiencing the symptoms highlighted above, please contact Whitby Smile Centre for more information.
